Decimal Format

Converting Degrees, Minutes, Seconds to Decimal Format

To use the on-line utilities on SpaceCom's web site, the site's latitude and longitude must be entered in a decimal format (i.e. 42.1361) instead of the degree, minute, second format (i.e. 42deg, 08min, 10sec).

To convert your site's coordinates from degrees, minutes, seconds format to decimal format, use this easy formula:

degrees + (minutes/60) + (seconds/3600)

Our example site coordinate above would be calculated as: 42 + (8/60) + (10/3600) = 42.1361 or 42 + (.1333) + (.0028) = 42.1361 note: You can round to any decimal place, but we suggest to the 4th decimal place.
